Haiti is a poor and struggling nation in need of help. Many suffer from starvation as their crops have been devastated and their water supply contaminated. All of which leads to communities filled with a host of medical problems.

St. Matthew Church has adopted a four parish community in Gobert, Haiti. Father Rexilien Pierre serves this community of more than 25,000 people including his rectory in the mountains of northern Haiti. Since 1995, the church of St. Matthew has been sending monthly collections to support this community. In February of 2004 St. Matthew organized its first medical mission to Gobert to treat the most acute problems. More than 2,000 people were seen by the medical team treating a myriad of health issues including a variety of infections, burns, parasites, malnutrition, wounds and daily aches and pains.

St. Matthew has recently completed a medical mission in March, 2006 and is planning another in February 2007.  The goal of these trips is to provide medicines, food, vitamins and a system for water purification and simply to show these poor people some compassion.

With the needs being so great one must wonder how they can help:

Please make this simple gesture a part of your commitment to those in need.
